Car Insurance GMC (Car Insurance). Car options? Civic Si, Acura RSX, Infiniti g37, Lancer EVO, Subaru Sti, 370z, etc.?Car options? Civic Si, Acura RSX, Infiniti g37, Lancer EVO, Subaru Sti, 370z, etc.? So i'm looking for a car. (obviously) I was never really into cars... all i really wanted was a civic or something. But lately i've been looking into it, and i'm really interested in it. I want to start going to car meets to learn more and such. if i get even more interested, i want to learn more and maybe even get into modifications. but only if needed. if i like the stock car then it's fine i guess. I've had my license for a year or so but i haven't gotten my first car yet. I want a car that actually goes pretty fast. 0-60 in maybe 6 seconds at least? I really want the evo x, but i heard awd makes the car stiffer and slower. is that true? the price is a little steep too. probably not a good idea for a first car either. i think the more practical thing for me to do would get the civic si, but im not sure. the more expensive cars like the rsx, g37, and 370z will be used. actually i think all of the cars i'm interested in getting will be used. i also like the Scion tC, but the 0-60 on that is 8 secs on auto, which is pretty slow. i just like it because its pretty haha (: i just want you guys' opinions on this, and any advice if possible, because i'm new to the whole car thing. as in i've only been looking into it for about 1 month. alsoooo, i only drive auto. i know it doesn't help much on the whole going fast thing, but manual is a big pain in traffic... and i live in LA. the 405 will kill me. thanks guys! - Most of the cars on your list get from 0-60 in about 5-5.5 seconds. The 370Z auto (7-speed with paddle-shift override) does it in about 4.7 seconds and is by far the quickest on the list. The G37 has the same engine and the same transmission but is more suited as a luxury car; it has more weight and is a bit slower to 60mph. The Evo comes next; 0-60 with the SST dual-clutch 6-speed auto is around 5 seconds dead. The STi's automatic transmission doesn't seem ideal; it's a normal automatic transmission with only 5 gears and according to some websites torque had to be reduced to 260lb-ft in order to reduce stress on the transmission. Estimated 0-60 time is 6.1 seconds. Bit of a shame really; the normal 6-speed manual STi would beat even the 30hp more powerful 370Z to 60mph. It really depends on how much you want to spend. I can't see the rsx in the g37 and the 370z price range. lol Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Auto parts : Noid Light Acura 1995 . Nut Alfa Romeo 1996 . Nut Driver Audi 1997 . O-Ring BMW 1998 . GMC . How to Replace Rear Differential FluidThe differential on your vehicle redirects the power produced by the engine to the drive wheels. The differential reroutes this power via a ring gear and a pinion gear. Because these two gears mesh and rotate at a very high speed, the gears produce friction, which in turn produces heat. To reduce the temperature inside the differential, the differential contains fluid. As with all lubricants, the differential fluid will gradually loose its effectiveness over time and must be replaced as a part of regular maintenance. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack stands Wrench or 1/2-inch-drive socket wrench Hand pump Container Funnel Vehicle owner's manual Step by Step : 1 Park the vehicle on level ground. Jack up the vehicle and lower it onto jack stands. 2 Locate the differential's drain plug. The precise location of the plug varies depending on the design of the differential, but the drain plug is typically located either on the back of the differential, meaning the part that faces the back of the vehicle, or on the front of the differential. 3 Remove the drain plug. Some drain plugs are simply a bolt, which you can remove with a wrench. Other drain plugs feature a recessed square center that is designed to accommodate the square tip of a 1/-2-inch-drive socket wrench. Insert the tip of the socket wrench into the plug and rotate it counterclockwise to remove it. 4 Pump the differential fluid out of the differential with a hand pump. Note that the hand pump is equipped with an inlet hose and an outlet hose. Insert the inlet hose into the differential through the drain plug opening and place the outlet hose in a container. Operate the pump until the differential is empty. 5 Insert a funnel into the differential through the drain plug opening. 6 Pour clean differential fluid into the differential with the funnel until the fluid level reaches the bottom of the drain plug opening. Take care to use only the recommended type of fluid. Consult the owner's manual to determine the correct fluid. 7 Remove the funnel from the differential. Tighten the drain plug with the appropriate wrench. 8 Raise the vehicle high enough to remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
GMC . How to Drain Rear Differential Fluid on 2004 Ford RangerReplacing the rear differential fluid in the 2004 Ford Ranger is a commonly overlooked maintenance project. The Ford factory service manual recommends replacing the fluid every 150,000 miles under normal operating conditions, and more often if you use the truck to tow heavy loads. Draining the fluid without making a huge mess can be difficult and no one likes to smell like gear oil. This maintenance project can be completed by the average home mechanic in about an hour, using basic hand tools. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Socket set Screwdriver Drain pan Step by Step : 1 Secure the front wheels with wheel chocks to prevent movement of the truck while you are working under it. Raise the rear wheels off the ground using a floor jack placed under the differential. Position jack stands under the rear axle tubes. Lower the truck onto the jack stands and remove the jack. 2 Position the drain pan under the rear differential to catch the draining gear oil. Loosen, but do not remove, the 13-mm bolts that attach the rear differential cover to the differential. 3 Use a screwdriver to carefully pry the differential cover away from the differential. Allow the fluid to drain into the drain pan. This may take several minutes since the gear oil is very thick. Once the oil is drained remove the 13-mm attaching bolts and the differential cover. Clean the gasket surface thoroughly before reinstalling the cover. 4 Refill the differential with the approved gear oil. The information on the type and quantity required for your Ranger will be in the owner's manual. *Stroke 2 — Compression stroke (see Figure 7-8): The intake and exhaust valves are closed as the piston moves upward and places the air under extreme pressure. As the pressure increases, the air heats up to the flash point (the point at which it causes the fuel to undergo sponta neous combustion). Just before that point is reached, fuel injectors spray fuel into the combustion chambers at the precise instant when ignition is to take place. Figure 7-8: Compression stroke. Stroke 3 — Power stroke (see Figure 7-9): With intake and exhaust valves closed, the fuel ignites, and combustion forces the piston down. This driving power is transmitted through the transmission and the rest of the drive train to the wheels, which causes the vehicle to move. 351

Diesel fuel Diesel engines run on diesel fuel, which is more efficient than gasoline because it contains 10 percent more energy per gallon than gasoline does. It is also safer than gasoline because its vapors don't explode or ignite as easily as gasoline does. Diesel fuel (sometimes called diesel oil) comes in two grades: Diesel #1 and Diesel #2 (or 1-D and 2-D). Just as gasoline is rated by its octane, diesel fuel is rated by its cetane, which indicates how easy it is to ignite and how fast it will burn. (The higher the cetane number, the more volatile the fuel.) Most diesel vehicles use fuel with a rating of 40 to 55. Most diesel automakers specify Diesel #2 for normal driving conditions. Truckers use Diesel #2 to carry heavy loads for long distances at sustained speeds because it's less volatile than #1 and provides greater fuel economy. GMC . Where is the 2003 Venture Dimmer Switch?
Ford Flex. * Diesel fuel is also measured by its viscosity, which has to do with its thickness and ability to flow. Like any oil, diesel fuel gets thicker and cloudier at lower temperatures. Under extreme conditions, this fuel can become a gel and refuse to flow at all. Diesel #1 flows more easily than Diesel #2, so it's more efficient at lower temperatures. The two types of oil can be blended, and most service stations offer diesel fuel blended for local weather conditions. If you plan to drive in very cold weather, choose diesel fuel rated at least 10 degrees lower than the coldest temperatures you expect to encounter. Consult your owner's manual for specifics. Diesel fuel emissions have been found to be extremely toxic to humans and other living things. Until safer forms of this fuel are developed, be careful not to inhale the fumes while you're pumping it into your fuel tank. Chapter 7: Diesels and Alternatively Powered Vehicles 1 A 1 The good news is that safer diesel fuels are being developed. The top contender, Fischer-Tropsch, is a liquefied natural gas that contains no sulfur and can be used in conventional diesel engines. With the proper converter, it has the potential to be as clean as natural gas. This fuel would be very expensive to create and market, so if you really love diesel engines, it would be wise to lobby for government subsidies and incentives to make this fuel (or compara-. ble diesel fuels) affordable. For more about this topic, see "Designer diesel," later in this chapter. The diesel fuel sold at truck stops is often cheaper than at service stations, and the fuel is fresher, too. Freshness is important because diesel fuel can easily become contaminated by the water vapor that condenses in fuel tanks, and by fungus and other microbes that can clog filters and fuel injectors. <\V ^"~~~ ^ vo u *mc* y°urseM at a station that arouses your suspicions, look for slimy stuff on the nozzle of the fuel pump. If, despite these precautions, the fuel in your tank becomes contaminated, see "Curing a sick diesel" later in this chapter. Try to fill up at a truck stop on a Saturday morning, when commercial trucking action is light. Weekday evenings are the worst times to buy. Muscling a small vehicle into a crowd of big rigs isn't easy! The electrical system Diesels require more stored energy for starting than conventional vehicles do, especially on cold days. Instead of just using the battery to enable the starter to crank the engine, as gasoline-powered engines do, a diesel must have sufficient power to enable the glow plugs to warm the combustion chambers and then must build up enough heat and compression in the cylinders to ignite the fuel. For this reason, diesels must possess considerably more battery capacity than conventional vehicles. Some diesels come equipped with two batteries, while others feature a single oversized battery, which may be more than 50 percent bigger than one found on a conventional car. GMC . Aside from this, electrical systems on diesels are pretty much the same as those on conventional vehicles, with alternators, solenoids, and starters performing their usual functions. For information about these components, see Chapter 5.
